Walkers just south of County School. 9th April 2004. Photo: Rosemary Cooper |
Our annual sponsored walk will be held on Good Friday, 2nd April. This has proved quite popular and generated valuable funds for the railway, so if you can make it then please join us this year for more of the same. This is a great way to see this part of our railway before trains return, and to see at first hand the work we are doing to reopen it. The fencing and clearance work at County School have progressed well, and there has been a significant amount of work on the track and lineside between Hoe and Dereham.
The walk is approx 6 miles and should take between 2-3hrs, providing a good opportunity to see the local wildlife and views across the countryside that await our future passengers.
We will set off from County School at 11am but a bus will be available from Dereham station at 10:15am for £2.50 per person. I would be grateful if you could contact me first on sponsored.walk@mnr.org.uk or telephone Dereham station to reserve a seat so I know how large a bus to book.
This year's walk will be in aid of funds to build a new set of gates for County School and Swanton Road level crossings. If you are unable to make this occasion then please consider making a donation to enable us to continue to enhance the facilities north of Dereham.
This is a walk along the old track bed so it may be unsuitable for young children. You will need sturdy footwear, warm clothing (including waterproofs in case of rain) and something to drink (in case of warm sunshine).
To obtain a sponsor form, please e-mail sponsored.walk@mnr.org.uk.
Please remember that work is ongoing on the northern section including the use of machinery, so this is the only opportunity to walk along the trackbed. It is normally very dangerous to go onto the railway without a Personal Track Safety Certificate.
